I unearthed (hee hee, get it?) my passion for gardening last year after my husband and I bought our first house. Gardening - also known as playing in dirt - satisfies my sciency-ness where I get to experiment with different plants and methods, my crafty-ness *evil cackle* when I cobble together build stuff for the garden, and my need to take care of things (nope, one husband, two dogs and a guinea pig are not enough work, but aren't they cute?).
Christmas 2012

My laboratory consists of a large backyard that is mostly shaded and a front yard that has three tiers and gets full sun. I converted a lot of the top tier lawn into raised beds and more recently added an herb spiral. Last year, most of my energy was channeled towards the vegetables grown in my raised beds and then sticking some plants in the ground elsewhere. This year, I plan on adding to those plants that survived, optimizing my veggie patch and making the non-vegetable portions more wildlife-friendly.

My approach is to plant the right plants in the right place so that they can do their own thing with little to no care from me, otherwise known as laziness plant-it-and-leave-it meets survivor-of-the-fittest meets I-hate-being-eaten-alive-by-mosquitoes-in-July-plus-it's-hot-out.

And this is where I keep a record of all most my experiments in my little garden.

Thanks for stopping by!
